Categories, Musical Instruments, and Drawings: A Unification Dream

The mathematical formalism of category theory allows to investigate musical structures at both low and high levels, performance practice (with musical gestures) and music analysis. Mathematical formalism can also be used to connect music with other disciplines such as visual arts. In our analysis, we extend former studies on category theory applied to musical gestures, including musical instruments and playing techniques. Some basic concepts of categories may help navigate within the complexity of several branches of contemporary music research, giving it a unitarian character. Some remarks on the category SET(L), part III

This paper considers the category SET(L) of L-subsets of sets with a fixed basis L and is a continuation of our previous investigation of this category. Here we study its general properties (e.g., we derive that the category is a topological construct) as well as some of its special objects and morphisms.

In the contemporary Polish Catholic discourse one can notice increased presence of figure of Satan and Biblical topos of his fight with God. The figure appears not only in strictly religious texts but also in discussion on up to date phenomenon of social life, such as abortion, in-vitro fertilization, homosexual partnerships and others. The article is trying to answer the question about functions of this topos.
